Four Kids & An i-Phone ~ A DIY Family Photo Shoot
I am blessed to have a total of eight nieces and nephews (as of the time of this writing) and they are all unbelievably photogenic (praise Him for designing His creation as He sees fit). Last summer, after my sister's oldest kids saw me working diligently on this website, which included hiring some freelancers to photograph me for various pages on the site, my sister's kids asked me if they could practice some form of modeling themselves.
My older sister (and the kids' mother), Hanah, is always reminding me to be financially wise and make do with less. I usually upon hearing the word "photograph" begin to obsessively formulate lists of what props, makeup, and clothing/accessories I need to buy so that things go smoothly. My sister, on the other hand, has mastered the art of DIY fun, and insisted that we hold a raw photo shoot, with no additional purchases. Hanah takes this quality from the spirit of my mother, God bless her, who used to know how to turn simple things into special memories for everyone.
Hanah and I piled the kids into our small Camry and headed over to the local elementary school for a PTO meeting (my sister is the PTO President) and had some fun before the meeting. We practiced showing different emotions in photographs and the kids got really into the acting thing.
Afterwards, when we got home, I showed my oldest niece and nephew how to alter photographs and they gave me their opinions about what colors things should be, etc. Editing was a lot of work but it was equally enjoyable!
The kids were so proud of the final product, they shared with all their friends online. I hope to be able to do this on a regular basis, but I know it's so difficult with me always traveling.
God-willing, we can continue to create and enjoy new memories.
