A student of mine today mentioned that she suspected she had vitamin D deficiency and was treating it temporarily with caffeine until her blood test results came in. I shamefully eyeballed my diet Pepsi as she talked today, thinking about my own all-time low with my energy levels and lack of sun.
One of the most amazing creations of God is this beautiful sun, which sends us energy that kick-starts our body's vitamin D production and ability to regulate our own sleep. But the gloomy, dry winters here in the desert render us completely without a tan.
Now that the weather is heating up and the sun has begun to crawl back into the Riyadh climate, I need to begin to tan. No one should deny themselves the colors of light from the sun. Even if only fifteen minutes per day, or, in my case, an hour or two per weekend.
